The Mills Girl

This project is based on a 1966 San Francisco Magazine cover which featured an article on the women of Mills College titled The Mills Girl. With the role of female-only institutions being increasingly questioned, I found this image especially complicated. In this piece I am “wearing” the face of the cover model as a digital mask to investigate my own role in such an institution. I am both excited and disturbed when our features align.
